Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
