Iranian Forces State Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the US has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
