The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
